For Covid-19 patients, the main focus is to consume foods that would help rebuild muscle, immunity & energy levels.

Whole grains are advised-like ragi, oats & amaranth.

  • Good sources of proteins such as chicken, fish, eggs, paneer, soy, nuts & seeds.
  • Healthy fats like walnuts, almonds, olive oil, mustard oil.

  • 5 servings of colored fruits & vegetables to get adequate vitamins & minerals.
  • Small amounts of dark chocolate (at least 70% cocoa) to get rid of anxiety.
  • Turmeric milk once a day to boost immunity.


Tips to maintain a healthy diet



  •  Keep salt intake less than 5gm per day (1 teaspoon approx.)
  •  Limit your intake of sugar. Choose fresh fruits instead of sweet snacks
  •  Drink enough water to stay hydrated
  •  Avoid hazardous and harmful alcohol use (Source: NHP India)


Continue to practice good food hygiene



  •  Separate raw and cooked food
  •  Cook thoroughly & keep food at safe temperatures
  •  Use safe water and raw materials to prevent any food-borne illnesses (Source: NHP India)


General Measures



Regular physical activity (yoga) & breathing exercise (pranayam) advised, as per tolerance.

As most patients experience loss of smell & taste or difficulty in breathing, it is important to eat soft foods at small intervals & add amchoor in the food.
