Covid-19 vaccine
side-effects
Before taking Vaccine
Step 1: ASK
The person getting vaccinated should be asked whether they ever had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine.
If yes, then they should be referred to an allergy specialist or health provider who will recommend the next steps.
Step 2: ASSESS
Health or medical conditions listed as precautions by the vaccine manufacturer or the local immunization program should be assessed.
These conditions may include: Pregnancy, compromised immune system, severe frailty among older people.
People with these conditions are eligible to take the vaccine dose but they should be offered information & counselling.
Step 3: COMMUNICATE
Common side-effects after vaccination should be communicated which show a person's body is building protection to the Covid-19 disease.
Common side effects include arm soreness, mild fever, headaches, tiredness & muscle/joint ache.
Step 4: VACCINATE the beneficiaries
After Vaccination
Step 5: OBSERVE
The vaccinated people should be observed for 15 minutes & told about how & where to report severe reactions.
Those with a past vaccine allergy should be observed for 30 minutes after they have been approved by a specialist (Step 1).
Step 6: INFORM
The vaccinated person should inform their supervisor immediately of any unexpected or severe reactions during the observation period or report later.
Reporting & investigating adverse events will ensure the Covid-19 vaccines continue to meet high safety standards. Also, it is extremely rare for severe health reactions to be directly caused by vaccines.
